Stainless steel from China to Ukraine
304, 316 and architectural-grade stainless sheet, coil and pipe sourced in China and delivered into Ukraine — grade-verified by PMI testing against the mill certificate, with customs handled end to end.
Stainless steel is where grade fraud is most common out of China: 201 or low-nickel material sold as 304, or 304 passed off as 316. For Ukrainian buyers in food processing, water and chemical infrastructure, or architecture, the wrong grade corrodes in service — and the price gap is exactly what tempts a trader to substitute. This page covers the China-to-Ukraine route for stainless steel.
We confirm the producer, verify the mill test certificate, and — the part that matters for stainless — run positive material identification (PMI) to confirm the actual alloy before shipment, so 304 is 304 and 316 is 316. Full grades and specs are on the main stainless steel page; here we focus on the route, customs and duty into Ukraine.
Getting it from China to Ukraine
Two working corridors, chosen per cargo, value and the current security picture.
EU land corridor (primary)
By sea or rail to Constanța (Romania), Gdańsk/Gdynia (Poland) or Klaipėda (Lithuania), then road or rail into Ukraine. Typically ~20–30 days door-to-door, and the more predictable option.
Black Sea corridor (direct)
Direct to Pivdennyi, Chornomorsk or Odesa via Ukraine's sea corridor. Roughly ~45–60 days from China depending on Suez vs. Cape routing, and subject to the current security situation.
Transit times are typical ranges, not guarantees — we confirm the corridor, port and schedule for each shipment before you commit.
Duty, VAT & customs into Ukraine
Stainless steel enters Ukraine at the standard import rates: a low most-favoured-nation duty (the exact line follows the HS 7219/7220 sub-code for sheet, coil or pipe) plus 20% import VAT on the customs value. There is no wartime exemption for stainless, so duty and VAT are part of the landed cost from the start.
We prepare the export and customs documentation — including the mill certificate and PMI report — and clear through the Single Window, so the grade, classification and traceability are settled before the goods move.
- Electronic clearance via the Single Window system
- Standard set: contract, invoice, packing list, CMR / Bill of Lading, certificate of origin
- Declaration of conformity attached where the goods require it
- We prepare and handle the export and customs documentation end to end
Certifications for this market
- Mill test certificate verified against the heat / batch number
- Positive material identification (PMI) confirms the actual alloy grade
- Surface finish and dimensions inspected to standard before shipment
- Certificate of origin and HS 7219/7220 classification prepared; Single Window clearance
Payment & currency
Settlement is normally in USD or EUR. Ukraine's National Bank has largely lifted wartime restrictions on payments abroad for imported goods, and FX hedging is available; we structure payment so the balance is tied to an inspection you approve. We confirm the exact routing for your deal.

Frequently asked questions
How do you stop 201 being sold as 304 or 316?
We run positive material identification (PMI / spectrometer) on the actual goods before shipment and cross-check against the mill certificate and heat number — so the alloy you pay for is the alloy you receive. Grade fraud is the single biggest risk in stainless out of China.
What duty and VAT apply to stainless steel in Ukraine?
A low MFN customs duty (exact by HS 7219/7220 sub-code) plus 20% import VAT on the customs value. Stainless has no wartime exemption, so both are planned into the landed cost up front.
Can you supply food-contact or architectural grades?
Yes — 304/304L for food and general use, 316/316L for chemical and marine corrosion resistance, plus finishes (2B, BA, mirror, brushed) for architecture. We confirm grade and finish with the producer and verify both before shipment.
How does it reach Ukraine and how long?
Via the EU land corridor (Constanța, Gdańsk or Klaipėda then road/rail), typically ~20–30 days door-to-door, or direct Black Sea (~45–60 days, security-dependent).
The risks of sourcing from China — and how we remove them
Every importer faces the same handful of failure points. Here's what each one is, and what we do about it.
01Paying a trader's hidden markup
We verify the supplier is the actual manufacturer and show the factory price separately from our fee, so you never overpay a middleman.
02A 'factory' that turns out to be a shell company
We check business licenses, capacity and history, and visit the site in person before you commit a single payment.
03Losing the deposit to fraud
Funds go to Silk Way Sourcing under one contract, not to an unknown account, and the balance is tied to an inspection you approve.
04Receiving goods that don't match the sample
An independent pre-shipment inspection checks quantity, dimensions and quality against your spec, with a photo report, before anything ships.
05Goods stuck at customs over paperwork
We prepare and handle export and customs documentation end to end, so shipments clear without costly holds.
What importers say after working with us
Sourcing wins across steel, solar, energy storage, construction materials and supplier verification. Client names are withheld for confidentiality.
- Steel & metals
We needed 200 tonnes of hot-rolled coil and kept getting quotes from traders. Silk Way took us straight to the mill, verified it, and inspected the load before we paid the balance.
